Public Interest Activities of Older Adults

Public interest activities of older adults The thesis focuses on the activities of older adults of the third age, especially on activities whose direct impacts go beyond the boundaries of family and personal interests and bring public benefit, i.e. benefit to municipalities, communities of interest or the whole society. How could society naturally use the potential represented by their knowledge, experience and skills? The thesis pursued three objectives: to theoretically and empirically investigate ordinary and public interest activities of the elderly as a contemporary social phenomenon, to identify motives, external factors and barriers to the realization of activities, and to propose an individual index of active old age. A concept of personal coping strategies of older adults was introduced and the so-called ideal, pure type of offensive, proactive strategy was proposed. The gerontological theories of activity, disengagement, and continuity, supported by several universal psychological theories, were discussed and interpretively linked to the issue of needs. Activation of older adults at home - example of care and respite service Caritas Příbram

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of activation of seniors in the home environment, who use the relief service of Caritas Příbram. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part has a total of 7 chapters dealing with topics such as old age, changes associated with this period of life, dementia as one of the possible disabilities in old age. It introduces the types of social services and care for the elderly, acquainted with activities that can be implemented when working with seniors. It is important to focus on individual planning as integral part of providing social services. The thesis also last describes the social service provider Charita Příbram and its relief service. The practical part is based on qualitative methods, namely the participatory observation in the home environment of clients of the relief service Charita Příbram with a combination of non-standardized interviews together with document analysis. The aim of the thesis is to find out and describe how the care of selected clients of the relief service of Charita Příbram in the home environment with emphasis on the applied activation methods, and to evaluate whether the scope of these services covers the individual needs, resources and possibilities of the client. Usage of LOTCA-G battery in occupational therapy by the seniors This bachelor thesis is focusing on assesment by the seniors using LOTCA-G battery (Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment for Geriatric Population). The aim of theoretical part is to obtain basic information about human aging and about efects of aging on the human body, focusing on cognitive functions. It also deals with cognition function disorders and basic methods, commonly used to assess cognitive functions in the Czech republic. The theoretical part describes the LOTCA battery and its variants; compares basic LOTCA battery with its geriatric LOTCA-G variant. The practical part contains three case studies of Sue Ryder Home clients including an assessment of clients cognitive functions using LOTCA-G batery, design and implementation of therapy and comparison of input test and retest.
Comparison of institutionalization of senior education between the Czech Republic and Kingdom of Spain

This bachelor's thesis focuses on comparison of institutionalization of elderly education in the Czech Republic and in Spain, especially on comparison of institution of the University of the Third Age in the both countries. The work is divided into five chapters. Introductory part of the thesis is devoted to theoretical bases of education of elderly people and the importance of education of older adults for the society and an individual himself, based on prognosis of trends in demographical situation in Europe. The main part of the thesis is focused on institutionalization of elderly education and there are introduced the most important forms of elderly education in the Czech Republic and in Spain. This part further results in the comparison of institution of the University of the Third Age in the both countries according to six elected criteria. The aim of the thesis is to find out if the institution of the University of the Third Age in Spain is based on the similar model as the institution of the University of the Third Age in the Czech Republic. Motivation of older adults for university studies

The thesis addresses the topic of motivation of older adults to study at the university level. The first part deals with the topic of adult education within the context of lifelong learning, defines the concept of older adulthood, and clarifies the concept of motivation as it relates to formal education for older adults. It presents an overview of research carried out in the field of older adults as related to university studies. The second part focuses on qualitative research that answers the following questions: what motivates older adults to study at the university level; how do they describe the motivating factors and other relevant circumstances of their decision to attend university; what criteria do older adults use to assess the benefits of study; and what motivates them to persevere in their studies.

Adaptation of seniors to the stay in homes for elderly persons

This bachelor thesis deals with the adaptation process of older adults to residence in nursing homes. The aim of the thesis is to analyze selected factors which may influence the process of successful adaptation of the elderly to the nursing-home environment. The selected factors include: voluntary decision-making to move into a nursing home, participation in social activities provided by the nursing home as a part of the residential care and intensity of contacts of the residents with their families. The theoretical part is focused on defining the basic terms and concepts in relation to the examined issue. The empirical part is a survey designed as a field research. Methods of statistical analysis will be used to analyze the data gained through structured interviews.
Prevention of the Rise of Dependency on Addictive Substances in Older Adult Women

The dissertation contains the general nature of physical and psychological changes in older adult women, a brief definition of most commonly abused addictive substances within the given target group and the factors that influence the rise of dependency on addictive substances. The typical causes for the rise of dependency in older adult women are analyzed in detail. The final part of the dissertation is dedicated to current possibilities for prevention of the rise of dependency in women in the afore-mentioned age. Herewith new forms of timely prevention are offered in the area of health services, media and free time based on influence of individual women´s attitudes.
